Renunciation of an inheritance is effected by a declaration of the heir before the Registry of the competent Magistrate’s Court (Eirinodikeio) of the place where the deceased had their residence or habitual stay.

The time limit for renunciation is four (4) months from the moment the heir becomes aware of both the opening of the succession and the reason for their inheritance.

This four-month period is extended to one (1) year if the heir was residing abroad or if the succession opened while the heir was residing abroad.
